A committee of the Ontario legislature heard from 40 groups this week about delays in rural broadband projects, many of them promised for completion last year.

Mayors from small towns said families still rely on mobile hotspots, and school boards said students in some areas cannot stream a class. Farm groups said newer equipment needs a steady connection to work.

The committee will write a report with recommendations before the end of the session.
